Snapshot Day 2003: Introduction

At long last, the Snapshot Day 2003 Report is available!

Snapshot Day 2003, which occurred on May 17, marked the first ever state-wide coastal water quality monitoring event. There are two reports summarizing the results of this monitoring extravaganza:

  1. The SRCD Executive Summary (pdf, 280K) is a text only report giving more of a local context to the summarized results. All of the maps and graphics will need to be viewed on the state-wide report link.
  2. The California Coast Wide report is posted at www.coastforyou.org. Follow the Snapshot Day links on the left column menu. The report is broken into three sections, all of which are large files. Section 1, "California Coast Wide Snapshot Day Report", gives an overall summary of the event. Section 2, "Regional Summaries with Maps", breaks the state into regions and summarizes the results for each. The region for which the SRCD coordinated efforts is the Navarro River to Marin Headlands. Section 3, "Appendices and Quality Assurance Report", has the raw data and logistical information about the event and the subsequent data analysis and quality assurance.

If you would like to view a hard copy of either report, we have them available at the SRCD office, along with a CD version of the report, which is available for you to make copies from.

It cannot be emphasized enough how much this event depended on the participation, skill and enthusiasm of the volunteers who participated. We would like to express our appreciation for each and every person who participated in and provided information, equipment, and support for Snapshot Day 2003. It was all of you who made this endeavor such a successful event. We look forward to working with you again in the future.

Snapshot Day 2004 has been scheduled for May 1, 2004. This will be a scaled down version of the event, but will still be valuable source of data. Please feel free to contact Sierra Cantor at (707) 569-1448 or scantor@sotoyomercd.org if you are interested in participating or would like more information. Continue to check the SRCD website for updates.
